Our French Holiday Cottage

Located in the little hamlet of Port Martin which sits between the Berry Canal and the River Cher and just 850 metres from the village of Langon-sur-Cher, with it’s beautiful boulangerie and tabac bar.

  • A Hidden Gem

    The name of the gîte ‘A Hidden Gem’ is very apt as when you drive from the village you aren’t able to see the gîte; our house nor the garden as they are all hidden by the surrounding trees. Only once you are directly in front of the garden you can see us.

  • Our Story

    We moved to France from a small town in Wales called Ystrad Mynach in the summer of 2015 due to Andrew's work and we were very fortunate to find a house that came with an independent gite, heated pool and a 2 acre garden with beautiful views over the countryside (we often say that we live in a field)

  • Local Villages

    Guests can take a stroll to the village where they can enjoy freshly made cakes and bread from the first class boulangerie or enjoy a beverage on the terrace of the tabac. Making the most of the newly pedestrianised path along the canal you could walk to the medieval village of Mennetou-sur-Cher which is located just 4km away from us.

  • Relaxing around the pool

    The pool is heated and is 11 meters long by 5 meters wide and 2.8 meters deep at the deepest area. There are walk-in steps to allow for easy entrance and exit for guests and a handrail has also been installed to make it even easier. It is surrounded by a well established hedge and has more than 250 square meters of grassed area for sunbathing as well as two gorgeous trees under which guests can hide should they need some shade. Guests can make use of the sun loungers around the pool in addition to our double hammock which has been a great hit.

    The pool is shared with the owners but can be used privately upon request

  • Garden games

    It is a 2 acre garden and is totally peaceful other than the sound of the birds in the trees, of which there are many. It has been separated into different areas and guest staying in the gite are welcome to make use of any of the them - from using the small swing/slide apparatus to playing French boules or having a kick-about with a football. We also have a table-tennis table for guests to use which is normally located either by the pool or in the garden depending on whether younger children are staying in the gite.

  • Leann and Andrew are very warm and welcoming hosts. They were available and responsive for our entire stay. They were also attentive from start to finish (welcome basket, baguette of the day, games for children, invitation to the party for the Courage of Charles III). The cottage is cozy, the garden is well maintained and the setting is peaceful. An ideal place for a family holiday!

  • Leann and Andrew are the perfect hosts, they give you as much or as little interaction as you desire (we really enjoyed spending some time with them). the gite itself is clean, equipped with all you need and very comfortable. The pool was clean and safe with lots of floaties/entertainment. They helped us find places to visit and the location was perfect for trips to Blois, vineyards and the zoo. It was so good we booked again straight away.

  • We stayed with the family at the beginning of July and we were delighted with our stay and the welcome from the owner. The cottage is well maintained as well as the exteriors. They were very attentive to the comfort of the children and accommodating during our stay. Ideal for resting and enjoying the swimming pool. Lots of activities nearby.

  • Perfect break after a stressful year. Leann & Andrew were welcoming & made sure we were settled but left us to our own plans (we know the area well). We are rebooking next year as the place is perfect, the owners great & the location quiet but convenient for where we want to tour, but is also great for just relaxing with a good book, a bottle of wine & peace.
